BECOMING AN ETHICAL MEDIA PROFESSIONAL

Hello world! I am currently pursuing an MSc in Media and Communications at the Pan Atlantic University in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. It is a highly rigorous programme and involves courses like: Marketing Strategy, New Media and Marketing Communications, Organisational Communication, Advanced Writing, Advanced Research Methods, and Professional ethics.

That brings me to today’s blog post, which is about becoming an ethical media professional. To be ethical means to be good, and by extension in the field of media, it means to observe the ethical principles that guide being a media professional. Being an ethical media professional encompasses areas of media like Deception, Minimising Harm, Diversity, Conflicts of Interest, Photojournalism, Privacy, Source/Reporter Relationships, Accountability and Transparency.

A media professional that is ethical is one that considers all these factors when doing business in the Media Space. Hopefully, by the time I am done with my degree programme, I will not only be a consummate media professional, but also an ethical one.

Have a good day!
